Planning: Table of Contents

 Intro

This is such a pivotal moment for NextGEN Athletics. Seeing that image selection for the cover is finalizedwith Jorge Rey III looking out over the pitch, which really sets the tone for the entire project. There's a weight to that image that perfectly mirrors the mental toll of a long-term injury.

Earlier in This project I spoke about other possible candidate athletes such as Adam Baqai and Daniel Aviles which I have decided to interview and shed some light on their amazing performances

For some of the other articles I decided to focus on topics underlined in the feature article like recovery, mentality, and optimal performance wear. As well as show the some of the most dominant athletes in high school that are predicted to dominate in the future.

These combinations of ideas have comprised the other articles that will be listed in this issue of my sports magazine.

The Blueprint: NextGEN Athletics Table of Contents

A great sports magazine is about more than just one story; it’s an ecosystem of performance, lifestyle, and raw human emotion. Here is how I’ve mapped out the premiere issue:

  • Page 05 | The Warmup: The South Florida Scouting Report Quick-hit profiles on the region’s rising talent, featuring Daniel Aviles and Adam Baqai.

  • Page 12 | The Lab: Rehab Secrets: The Science of the Snap A deep dive into the biomechanics of recovery—how elite athletes rebuild muscle after a tear.

  • Page 20 | The Mental Game: Mindset & Motivation A workbook-style feature on building "Comeback Warrior" resilience when the lights are off.

  • Page 32 | THE FEATURE: The Silence of the Sidelines The untold story of Jorge Rey III: From the peak of his game to the isolation of the training room.

  • Page 48 | Next-Gen 20: The Class of 2026 Our definitive list of the 20 high school athletes poised to dominate the next decade.

  • Page 56 | The Rack: Gear Guide 2026 The latest in compression tech and wearable sensors helping athletes track their return to 100%.

Why these stories?

The goal of this magazine is to be the "Bible of the Comeback."

  • The Scouting Report: Provides local context and builds the "NextGEN" brand by showcasing Jorge’s peers.

  • Rehab & Gear: These sections provide utility. Readers don't just want to feel inspired; they want to know the "how-to" of athletic longevity.

  • The Next-Gen 20: This adds authority to the magazine, establishing it as a tastemaker in the sports world.

Analysis: The Vision Behind the Magazine

The title of this feature, “The Silence of the Sidelines”, influenced my cover design considerably; rather than using an action shot (a “hero shot”) of Jorge scoring a goal, I chose to use a photograph of him facing away, which gives off a feeling of being alone and captures that specific moment when an injured player is sitting on the field and is unable to participate with his teammates.

At first the project was to be a comprehensive overview of sports in South Florida; however, as I made Jorge’s “Road to Glory” its own focus, it took on more of a “prestigious” feel and became less of a “busy,” sports-themed layout and more of a cinematic layout. The use of pink accents to parallel the pink armband worn by the team captain was a conscious design decision, drawing a contrast with the green grass of the field and providing a contemporary feel of the “Inter Miami” brand, as well as a symbolic representation of the “heart” shown in the struggle.

In conclusion, is this design correct? Yes! The “Premiere Issue” title and barcode add the final level of professional polish that is necessary to create a retail-worthy piece for use as a portfolio. This design does not feel like a school assignment, it truly resembles what you would expect to see at an upscale newsstand if you were actually published.

Reflection: What’s Next?

The foundation is solidnow it's time to learn how to utilize Adobe InDesign so I can edit the photos to convey the comeback theme that my magazine is promoting, as well as how to string all my ideas together and make it look like a magazine.
